Proposal for Waqf Land Allocation to Soldiers’ Families
During a recent Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) session on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Uttarakhand Waqf Board suggested allocating Waqf land to the families of soldiers who died serving the nation, regardless of religious background. A two-member team, led by Chairman Shadab Shams and CEO Syed Siraj Usman, presented the proposal. The board stressed that honoring soldiers’ sacrifices should transcend religious lines, calling it a “national responsibility.”
Call for “One Nation, One Education, One Law”
The Uttarakhand delegation further proposed a unified approach of “one nation, one education, one law” and recommended dissolving both the Waqf and madrassa boards. This aligns with the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) set for enactment in Uttarakhand, which is intended to promote equality across all religions.
Request for Temple Surveys and CBI Investigations
The board also backed a thorough survey of temples, suggesting the involvement of premier agencies, like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to investigate any potential disputes surrounding Waqf land. This step aims to ensure transparency and resolve any controversies associated with Waqf properties.
