Maharashtra remained the highest GST contributor, collecting a whopping ₹31,530 crore in May 2025. This marks a 17% increase compared to ₹26,854 crore collected in May 2024.

Following Maharashtra, the southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu took the second and third spots respectively. Other top contributors included Gujarat and Delhi.

Key GST Filing Updates from July 2025
On June 7, 2025, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) announced two major updates for GST taxpayers starting July 2025:
- No edits allowed on GSTR-3B forms from July 2025 onwards.
- Time limit set for filing returns – monthly and annual GST returns cannot be filed after three years from the original due date.
These changes aim to improve compliance and transparency in the tax system.
