Dehradun – The Uttarakhand Film Vikas Parishad is launching a comprehensive film resource directory aimed at bringing together film professionals and institutions within the state. The directory will list talents ranging from film producers, directors, and actors to technicians, spot boys, and production houses, providing a unified platform for film production in Uttarakhand. Individuals can register through a public Google form until October 31, 2024.

Expanding Opportunities in the Film Industry

This initiative is part of Uttarakhand’s recently introduced film policy, which seeks to generate employment and promote tourism. The policy supports filmmakers with grants and offers a 30% or up to Rs 3 crore subsidy for films shot 75% in the state. An additional 5% grant is available for films shot in unexplored locations, and filmmakers who use real location names can claim another 5% bonus.

Encouraging Local Talent and Cinematic Studies

To further promote filmmaking, the state is offering Rs 10 lakh remuneration assistance for casting local actors in films shot in Hindi or other languages listed in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule. Film crews staying in state-run hotels can receive a 50% discount, and students pursuing cinematic education at prestigious institutions will be eligible for scholarships covering 50-75% of their fees.

Enhancing Cinema Infrastructure and Introducing Film Awards

In addition to developing a directory, Uttarakhand’s film policy includes plans to establish cinema halls, multiplexes, and mobile cinema setups in remote, hilly regions. The state is also focused on creating a curriculum for cinematic studies at existing universities and institutes.

Uttarakhand has also introduced the Uttarakhand Film Award and is in the process of selecting a brand ambassador to further promote its film policy.
