The Uttarakhand government has officially increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees by 2%, bringing the total to 55%. With this latest revision, Uttarakhand’s DA is now on par with the central government rate, fulfilling a long-pending demand of state employees.
This decision will benefit both active government employees and pensioners in the state. The revised DA rate of 55% will come into effect from January 1, 2025, as announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Several Indian states have aligned their DA rates with the central government over the years. Uttarakhand now joins that list, offering its staff the same relief from rising costs as their central counterparts.
Meanwhile, government employees in West Bengal continue to demand a similar move. They currently receive only 18% DA under the Sixth Pay Commission, creating a 37% gap compared to central employees. Despite protests, rallies, and legal action, the West Bengal government has not yet agreed to match the central rate.
The move by Uttarakhand sets an example for other states still lagging behind in adjusting DA benefits.
